Assalamu alaikum / greetings, via moonsighting.com’s Jumada-al-Oola page:
The Astronomical New Moon is on April 3, 2011 (Sunday) at 14:32 UT. On Sunday, April 3, it can not be seen anywhere in the world by naked eye. On Monday, April 4, 2011, it can be easily seen in Europe and North America, but with difficulty in Asia, Central Africa and Central South America (See visibility curves).
On that same site, There aren’t even any moon sighting reports for Sunday night, and neither http://www.islamicmoon.com or http://www.crescentwatch.org have any reports for Sunday night either, even though the sunset was after moonset, at least here in Winter Haven, however sunset was 7:45 PM and moonset was 8:02 PM, though given what little knowledge I know on this subject, there is not enough time between sunset and moonset for the moon to be seen.
Though it seems that tonight, 04/04/2011, the chances of sighting the mooon at least here in the US are Inshallah pretty good. Assuming that the start of Jumada-al-Oola is tomorrow, 04/05/2011, the 29th day of the month, and thus the next time to try to look for the hilal of the next month, Jumada-al-Thani, should be 05/03/2011. Meaning that the start of the next month will either be 05/04/2011 or 05/05/2011.
