Assalamu alaikum/greetings, yeah I really don’t care about the Anthony Weiner scandal. Just like with Arnold, he is not the first nor the last to get caught having some sorta dalliances with women. But…
What gets me is the hypocrisy of the Republicans (and some Democrats too) who say that Weiner should resign, but why should he resign when, say, someone like David Vitter, who, well, did much worse than what Weiner did, doesn’t have to resign? I think that’s what I really have a problem with.
If you want Weiner to resign as a matter of principle that’s one thing, but I think the Democratic leadership that is asking for Weiner’s resignation is only doing so as just another way of them always rolling over and kowtowing to the Republicans. ’cause I don’t remember them clamoring for Weiner’s resignation until the Republicans started doing it, and that’s what bothers me.
As for my own personal opinion, it would be one thing if he came out clean to start with, but to sit there for days and out and out lie that his account had been hacked into, only to have to come out later and admit that yeah that was him that posted those photos of himself, well, then you have a credibility issue, and perhaps resignation would not be a bad thing. However, if he has to resign so does Vitter, et al, and the Republicans should not be all self-righteous especially when they can sit there and make all kinds of excuses for people in their own party who get caught doing the same sorts of, if not worse, things. But then again, it’s not like the Republicans aren’t a bunch of hypocrites themselves, some of them talking all about God and religion and family values while having affairs behind-the-scenes.
