I Think My Hair Is Falling Out

Assalamu alaikum/greetings, Perhaps my hair isn’t necessarily falling out so much, but it’s shedding a whole lot more than usual. And even though I’ve read an article which says that this sorta thing is normal postpartum, it’s still annoying and disconcerting. And I just plain don’t like it. And from what I can tell, there’s not too much I can do about it either except to wait for things in my body to get back to normal, whatever “normal” is now. Because even though I’ve lost all of my baby weight, there are just things about me that will not ever be the same again post baby.

But it’s not cool to go around the house finding your hair all over the floor, or in the fridge, or all over your bath towel after you’ve finished drying off. I mean, if I had the gutts, I’d just shave my head and start fresh. But I heard somewhere that it’s haram for women to cut their hair (didn’t know this actually until recently), so who knows. I’ll probably just have to tough things out until things in my body stabilize a bit.

  1. I had that problem two years ago when I got very sick. There were two things I did that helped: first, when I took a shower, I didn’t vigorously rub my hair, just streaked the shampoo in and gently patted it dry afterward; and second, I learned that adding zinc to your diet can help with hair growth. I don’t remember all of the foods with high zinc content–the main one I eat is beef. But it’s easy to find lists of the foods online.

That happened to me after I had my daughter, and she is now five years old, and it is still happening!
