Well, perhaps this should be filed under 1,780th reason not to drink soda. But…

I’d gone and gotten a Pepsi and realized there was something sticky on the can, and it kinda had this alcohol-y/Windex-y smell on it. I mentioned it to my husband, and I thought maybe the package had rubbed up against a bottle of Windex or something. So I just washed off the can, and put it in the fridge to get cold. So anyway, when I opened up the can, I could still smell the smell on it, but the can didn’t feel funny, and it tasted OK, but the strong smell, even after I’d washed the can off, really bothered me, so I got up to check the rest of the package to try to figure out what had spilled all over the cans of soda.

What I found was a ruptured can of soda, half empty, with the tab still shut. And sticky stuff all over the other cans which has the same smell as described above. I suspect what happened was that the soda had leaked out of the can, and had gotten all over the other cans, and in the process of going bad, it smells like, well, something you don’t expect soda to smell like after it’s gone bad.

And it’s really unnerving to have something that smells one way and then when it, well, “changes”, it smells like something else. I mean, the smell is just, ewww. Has anyone ever heard of this before? I’m assuming the other cans are safe to drink, but it smells like someone spilled some kinda chemical all over my cans of soda, and well, I don’t think there’s anything harmful as it’s been a couple hours or so since I drank the afore-mentioned can and I’m well, alive enough to type this.

The best way I can describe the smell is someone took a bottle of rubbing alcohol and spilled it all over the cans. Sure doens’t amke you wanna drink it lol.

But anyway. Don’t wanna seem paranoid or anything, but I’ve never had anything like this happen before.

Any ideas?
